This is a full year course designed for the student to spend the majoity of his or her time in the lab building a selected project. Projects may include cedar chests, coffee tables, lamps, trash bins, jewelry boxes, and planters.
After becoming familier with the basic concepts of design and drafting techniques, the student will move into the lab area and begin working on thier individual project using various power machines and tools such as the radial arm, jointer, surface planer, table saw, band saw, scroll saw, drill press, belt and disk sander, router, belt sander, orbital finish sander and the oscillating spindle.
Through the kinds of experience and knowledge gained in this course, students will begin to develop an appreciation of good industrial design, craftmanship, orderly procedures, safe work habits, pride in thier individual work, integrity, proper work ethic, and have an understanding of how to use the tools, machines, woods, and devices properly and safley.
Industrial Arts 2- Grades 10-12
This is an advanced course designed to allow the student to explore detailed aspects of the woodworking trades and industries. Instructions is given in the methods and techniques of designing and construction of basic cabnets and carcass type furniture. one course assigned completed project, minimum, and one individual completed projects, minimum. projects may include desks, gun cabinet, entertainment centers, beds, wishing wells, wagons, and planters.
Emphasis is placed upon prefsbricating, assembly, utilizing fasteners and hardware, laminates and finishes to give the student an overall understanding of the woodworking process. Quality is emphasized in developing and reading working drawings to produce the finished core project. Possible opportunities for future employment in the woodworking industries are also explored.
Industrial Arts 3- Grades 11-12
This course is designed to give the student an opportunity to develop his/her skill as a woodworker beyond the courses in AITE Ag Construction 1 and 2. The student must select a project based upon a certain amount of difficulty and advancement. It may consist of leg and rail construction, door and/or drawer, and has to be approved by the instructor before beginning to make the plans and build the project. Upon completion of such a project, the student should have had various advaned skills to preform and/or special problems to solve.
The project should be completed with precise measurment, quality of wood joints, high degrees of quality, detail, good design, and good craftmanship throughout. Areas to be covered are those subjects, which dealt with the previous woodworking courses, but higher avancements.
Major project may include storage-shed construction.
